Summary of Work Start Scheme Placement Opportunity
The school caretaker is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role combines general maintenance, cleaning, security, and support duties to ensure the school operates smoothly.  
Duties/Responsibilities
Maintenance and Repairs Perform minor repairs to buildings, furniture, and equipment. Monitor and maintain heating, lighting, plumbing, and electrical systems. Coordinate with external contractors for major repairs or inspections. Ensure classrooms, offices, and communal areas are well-maintained. Cleaning and Hygiene Clean and maintain school buildings, including classrooms, offices, restrooms, and hallways. Ensure waste disposal and recycling procedures are followed. Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies. Security and Safety Lock and unlock school premises at the start and end of the day. Monitor premises for security hazards and respond to emergencies. Ensure safety procedures are followed, including fire drills and emergency evacuations. Report any health and safety issues promptly. Grounds and Facilities Management Maintain school grounds, including gardens, sports fields, and pathways. Clear snow, leaves, and other hazards as necessary. Set up and take down furniture and equipment for school events. Support Services Assist staff with moving equipment, setting up classrooms, and other logistical tasks. Respond to requests from staff or students for minor maintenance support. Maintain an inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies.  
Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Personal Qualities
Previous experience in maintenance, facilities management, or caretaking preferred. Understanding of health and safety regulations. Physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks. Reliability, honesty, and the ability to work independently. Good communication and interpersonal skills.  
Special Working Conditions
May require early morning, evening, or occasional weekend work for events. Involves indoor and outdoor tasks, manual labour, and exposure to cleaning chemicals.   DBS required Reference required
