Summary of Work Start Scheme Placement Opportunity
This exciting placement opportunity is available within Denbighshire County Council’s Extra Care setting.
 
This is an opportunity for the right candidate to work within our care team, to provide care and support to our citizens, to learn new skills and to experience working in a Extra Care setting with Denbighshire County Council.
 
The successful candidate will offer support to a care team dedicated to ensuring that citizens have their needs met to the highest possible standards and that they have a positive experience of Extra Care.
 
Duties/Responsibilities
To observe and support carers in offering assistance in accordance with each citizen’s individual care plan. 
To work using a ‘person-centred approach’ – which means to recognise that everyone is unique, and that person should be at the heart of their own care & support.
To work with supervision, alongside carers to encourage citizens to remain as independent as possible.
To observe and job shadow carers of those citizens who are unable to manage some tasks themselves (e.g. assistance to wash, bathe, manage continence) – these tasks must be undertaken in a sensitive and respectful manner.
To observe the dietary, nutritional and health requirements of citizens.
To communicate with citizens to ensure their wellbeing under the supervision of care staff.
To assist carers in creating a supportive, homely environment, where personal control and independence is maximised.
To follow County Council Policies and Procedures and Best Practice Guidelines and observe personal and work place health and safety standards.
Act with integrity and uphold public trust and confidence in the social care profession.
 
To undertake training as needs are identified and to contribute to team and staff meetings.
 
 
Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Personal Qualities
An interest in working as a carer
A willingness to learn new skills and attend relevant mandatory training programmes
Ability to communicate at all levels
Ability to build positive working relationships with citizens and colleagues
Ability to follow instruction and work in a professional manner
Fluency in spoken English is essential to the post. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable.
